AS and safe exercise

What do you guys think is safe?
I've been told no high-impact, like no hockey.

What about something like mountain biking?

  • It depends on what you mean by mountain biking. I think it's in the "mostly okay" area, but with some caveats.

Posture is an issue with biking, especially with straight mountain-bike handlebars, but I think the activity itself is fine. Unless you mean real mountain biking, really offroad and steep. I imagine that that could be a little rough: lots of little shocks to the spine.

I've been told repeatedly that it doesn't get any lower-impact than swimming. Only I don't swim.

I could be wrong, but I suspect it's better to expose ourselves to some moderate-impact exercise -- I hike, myself -- than not to exercise at all. As long as we're not jumping out of airplanes or bungee jumping on a regular basis, I guess.
